Pinterest in real life

I found this pin on Pinterest last night and immediately put it to use.  I liked this idea because it helps avoid tucking in my blouse to my pencil skirt a.k.a. no bulky shirt under my skirt!
I just bought this beige, bondage skirt from H&M and needed a way to style it.  I matched it with an oatmeal tank underneath my blouse and oatmeal sandals.  Perfect for a hot June day in school!

Trader Joes is Affordable

I used to avoid Trader Joes because I didn't think I was fancy or rich enough to enter... until I was exposed to the most delicious cheese ever.  It was a fontane cheese soaked in syrah.  It was so much more up my alley than my usual mozz, mexican, and colby jack.  I had to get this Trader Joes original by taking the plunge and going into Trader Joes.  I joined the club.  I am now fancy too (but still not rich).

I quickly realized that the prices were actually the same or better than regular chain grocery stores like Shop Rite and Stop and Shop - but the products were better too!  When I say "better," I mean their items are of worldly cuisine and are packaged to my liking.  For example, I just recently bought a bag of 6 peeled hard boiled eggs.  When I used to buy a dozen of eggs, I often didn't use them all and let them go bad.  I have no problem spending $2.99 on already cooked and peeled eggs because I will actually eat all of them.

I got all of the above items in the picture for $47 which is $2 more than my weekly budget.  This was probably shopping trip #3... At the time this post was written, I have been going for about a month regularly.  Check out the specific items I bought in this one shopping trip below.

Sushi (approx. $3.99)
Perfect for packing for lunch or dinner - or just eating it at home.

Fruit (19 cents/banana, strawberries and blueberries vary per week, watermelon, $3.69)
Green Tea and Lemonade $2.69

Veggies, and Sandwhich Items (Tomato Basil Hummus, thin pretzels, pitas, brie cheese, broccoli and cauliflower mix, peppers)  The most expensive item was the turkey which was $4.99, it's kind of chewy though.  I don't recommend it.

Pita Chips to eat with this strawberry salsa from Pinterest ( approx. $1.99)

Separate shopping trip (some fav. items):

Heat up this soup and make an adult grilled cheese with pita bread and brie cheese! Delicious!

If you've ever made Spanakopita, you know it's a pain to make.  These are about $3.99 and very good.

A cruel discovery I made on my most recent trip is COOKIE BUTTER. It's the texture of peanut butter, but tastes like a cookie (not choc. chip, but like a ginger bread cookie or snickerdoodle cookie).  Become addicted with me.  Add to ice cream, cookies, toast, pita bread, dessert pizza, apples, straight out of the jar... $3.69

These clusters are without the flakes.  Grab a handful and eat.  Eat as cereal with milk.  Or add to yogurt! $2.99

Will you be attempting to try Trader Joes?  Do you already shop Trader Joes?  What is your favorite item in the store?

How to Make a Pennant Banner

This banner was made for my father's 50th birthday, but you can make a similar banner for your classroom and use phrases like "Welcome Back" or "Ms. Soansos Class."  Make it now at the end of the year, so you don't have to use up your precious summer!  The cost for me was FREE. I already had all of the supplies.

I made a template out of a stiff piece of mail I had.  I folded it in half to find the center. Then I took a ruler to trace from one corner to the bottom center.  I repeated this step for the other side.  Then I cut the template out.

I traced the template onto the back of my scrapbook papers. I needed 7 papers for this project. (My scrapbook papers were chosen by color.  I stuck with a green and blue theme). For my template, I was able to get 3 triangles for every 12" x 12" paper. I cut out all the triangles.

I didn't want to place my sticky letters directly onto my triangles for fear that the letters would blend in to the different patterns.  I figured if I cut out some plain green circles to place on top of the triangles, then my letters would make more of a statement.  I started by tracing a circle on the back of a scrapbook paper.  I realized I didn't want to cut 16 circles, so I came up with a better solution. (See in next pic).

I folded the paper up and cut out 16 circles at one shot.

Now time for my letters.

I placed my sticky letters onto my circles.  Then I taped them onto the pennant flags.

Now it's time to assemble your pennant flags together.  I used twine and clothespins.

I spaced the pennants about an inch apart from each other.

Don't mind the stain in my rug :(  I will need to get out my resolve.

Voila! Hung up ready to enjoy.

Bath and Body Works Semi-Annual Sale Summer 2014 Stock up to Save

Bath and Body Works Semi-Annual Sale for summer 2014 will begin June 9th. This sale lasts approximately a month long and features (usually) the lowest prices of the season.  I take this time and SPEND to SAVE later on.  I stock up on the body creams because the lotions just don't do it for my skin.  I also stock up on the wall flowers, and other misc. items to give for gifts.  I buy now, and give at Christmas time!  These items make great gifts for co-workers, Moms, Sisters, mother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, teachers, bus drivers, etc!

I did buy my wallflowers early this season though.  I have been tracking the wall flower prices for about a year now and the lowest price I can catch them for is $2.  Sometimes during the Semi-Annual Sale I can catch a particular scent for lower than that, but generally speaking, $2 is the lowest.  I grabbed 10 today for $3 each.  I used a spend $30 get $10 off coupon (from my e-mail) making my total $20 plus tax.  I added the wall flowers to my "Scent basket" to keep all my fragrances together.

The summer is also the best time for me to stock up on my wall flowers because I love fruity and fresh scents.  I hate woodsy, heavy, cotton, cinnamon, spices, fall scents, etc.  The scents I grabbed today were:
  • Pomelo Grapefruit
  • Honeysuckle
  • Island Margarita
  • Island Waters (for my mom)
  • Bloom
  • Lemon Mint Leaf (2)
  • Watermelon Lemonade (2)
  • Garden Party

Below is a glimpse of my Bath and Body Works Shelf (all left from last Winter's Semi-Annual Sale).

How I estimate how much to buy: If I go through 1 body cream a month, I will need at least 6 body creams until the next sale. I have 5, so I will need 1 more.  Also, the Secret Wonderland fragrance in the front will probably be a gift, so I will probably need 2 more.

I use about 2 bottles of soap a month (one for bathroom and one for kitchen).  I have 8 bottles, so I will need 6 more bottles to last me until January.
Also, I go through about 1 hand sanitizer per month (at school for the kids).  I have 4, so I will not need any since we will be on break soon for the summer.  BTW this is a great gift for teachers!!
See the soap in the baggie?  That was a gift from a student this Christmas.  I was so happy to receive a gift I knew I would really use.
Mark your calendars to stock your linen closets like I do! June 9th!
P.S. Always use their coupons! I got the Country Chic travel shower gel in the top pic for free, just by using the "Get a free travel sized item with any purchase" coupon.  What's even better is I already had the Country Chic lotion for free...
